Indoor Air Quality — common questions
On the coil, yes — they prevent biofilm and keep the coil clean, which is a real efficiency and smell benefit. As a whole-air disinfectant they're marginal.
For most Volusia homes MERV 11–13 is the sweet spot. Higher chokes airflow unless your system is designed for it.
A properly sized MERV 13 media cabinet plus a good vacuum routine makes a big difference within weeks.
